Teaching Activities
AI Applications in Infection Biology Course Co-Organized by Kemal Avican
This course provides an introduction to artificial intelligence (AI) techniques applied in infection biology. Participants will learn how artificial intelligence can be used to predict disease outbreaks, antibiotic resistance in pathogens, monitor pathogens and antibiotic resistance in the environment, analyse host–pathogen interactions, support the development of new antimicrobial agents, and promote responsible AI use. Additionally, the course includes three practical workshops, the AlphaFold protein-structure prediction system, SIAMCAT for metagenomic data analysis, and tools for scientific automation.
The course is designed for young researchers, either infection biologists seeking to understand AI and its use within infection biology or an AI enthusiast curious about AI applications in infection biology.
Genetics and Gene Technology led by Kemal Avican
The course shall give basic knowledge in genetical processes and their underlying mechanisms in both pro- and eukaryotic organisms, as well as basic knowledge about important methods in biotechnology and gene technology. this is demonstrated by studies of different model organisms used in genetical research.
